    Maybe if you called it basil chutney people wouldn't be weirded out by it? It sounds delicious and the color reminds me of Indian food.

    Late every summer, I make 7 or 8 jars of pear butter. This year I think I will make some basil/pear butter. I like the idea of wrapping both flavors around in my mouth. I think the addition of the pears would raise the acid enough for a boiling water bath. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Well, one of my very favorite things in the world is green pepper jelly, so this might not be as weird as it sounds at first...
    If I end up with enough basil (Is there ever enough basil?) I'll give it a try and let you know.

    As I was reading I could see using the basiljam on a cracker with goat cheese and prosciutto...and then you said the same. Apple, basil, sharp cheddar wrapped in prosciutto...I have a whole host of flavors rolling around in my head. You have something wonderful there!

    That's quite a shade of green you've got there! My first thought was "raita", but using it with vanilla ice cream also sounds intriguing.

    I had to laugh at the olives/grapes story. My daughter stole an olive off my plate when she was two, thinking it was a grape. She still won't touch olives to this day, 14 years later.
