I got caught up in watching episodes of Glee last night and didn't get to the blog. So this morning I will give you a little photo album of my Monday-morning world.
The seedlings are thriving under the lights
Mmmm, tasty rawhide chew
The nifty new popup nets for foiling the rabbits. They are specifically designed for the black recycled plastic grow beds. From Gardener's Supply, of course. Can you see the little green things inside? Those are future salads, and they're doing just fine.
New wren house
Potatoes are planted in here
Mr. Jefferies in the garlic bed, with his always-present flying pig, asking the question, "WHAT are you doing taking pictures and not throwing the toy?"
This may not look like much in the photo, but picture cutting each one of those prickly rose bushes by hand. I did that on Saturday. The untrimmed stragglers are even pricklier black raspberry bushes that grow rather willy-nilly in amongst the roses and should not be trimmed if I want them to fruit. Good that the weather was cool enough that I could wear protective clothing for doing this job.
I love your little seedlings. When I'm home, I keep going over to my cowpots and obsessively looking them over and hoping to see a bit of green. A bit silly, because it has only been 2 days or so.

I love gardening, as long as it's done vicariously through REAL gardeners. Thanks for the photos.

Holy smokes! As if raspberry picking wasn't enough of a prickly undertaking! Maybe you could root some new canes from your existing ones and move them to the new front garden.
The roses look great. I don't have any, but I think I should.

You'll be surprised but I was just on Gardener's Supply looking at Topsy Turvy planters.
Your garden looks fabulous! Can I be forever envious?

Glad to see Mr J has the garden (or at least the garlic) under control. As for the actual work of gardening, Norma, we rely on you, as long as you are under careful supervision of you-know-who.

Being without grow lights, I cheated and picked up some collard greens (never tried before) and cabbage seedlings from my local produce store yesterday. Can't wait to get them into the ground. My garlic looks like yours and my perennial Egyptian walking onions are twice that. I am relieved to see ours temps will be reasonably cool for a while. The pop up nets are the bomb! Lucky me that I have the same containers! Off to order......

Hi Norma! I made your maple balsamic vinaigrette this weekend. It was a major hit with the family. We all really loved it! Thanks for posting it.

I absolutely love black raspberries. And I love their amazing purple branches. My family thinks I am weird.

Thanks for the pictures. NOW I'm with you! With no space or enough sun to garden, I tend to get my "fix" through others. There are so many new products available since I was a novice gardener back in Iowa in 1984 and I have you to thank for for introducing them to me. I love your enthusiasm, Norma, for all that back-breaking earth-churning work!

Our indoor seedlings are just starting to poke their heads up and outdoors nada. Sorrel is doing well. I need to get an earlier start next year.
Oddly enough I've never seen a rabbit here. I would know because Smokey particularly likes the young ones (ick).

I so love your growbeds. We made ours from wood and do not have nifty rabbit foils ready made. I'm in the middle of putting fencing up instead. It's slow going. Would probably be easier to grow those dandelions!

How are you growing those potatoes? Is that a Gardener's SUpply potato bag? Inquiring minds in NJ (friends) want to know ...

Norma, I can always count on you for solutions to my gardening dilemmas! We have rabbit fencing around our garden, but the crazy squirrels hop in and take the strawberries right off the plants as soon as they start to turn red. I'm loving that pop-up netting!! It just make save out strawberry crop this year. Thanks again. I learn so much from you!
