Joke of the Day
We went out to dinner with some old friends recently, and one of them is a real joke-teller. Something you might not know about me is I'm a truly terrible joke-teller. I'm the one who always screws up the punchline. Not even the punchline, but the facts leading up to it as well! Not quite as bad as my mom, but bad. And I love a good joke, but I'm the kind who usually groans in appreciation, rather than laughs. It has to be a pretty good joke, with really an unexpected punchline, before I will laugh at it.
Anyway, this friend is a veritable encyclopedia of jokes. This was one she told. And so I wouldn't mess up the lead-in or the punchline, I Googled it and of course I found it online:
An elderly man in Texas had owned a large farm for several years. He had a beautiful large pond at the back of the property next to the road, and he’d fixed it up real nice with picnic tables, horseshoe pits, and he’d planted some nice flowers and fruit trees next to the pond. One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond to look it over, as he hadn’t been down there for a while. He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard splashing and female voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer he saw that 5 young women had parked their car at the side of the road, climbed the fence and were skinny-dipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his presence and they all went hurriedly splashing to the deep end.
One of the women shouted to him, “We’re naked and we’re not coming out until you leave!” The old man frowned and yelled back, “I didn’t come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond.” Holding the bucket up he said, “I’m just here to feed the alligator."

Parkour was very cool. And cauliflower sheep, too? You're too good to us...

parkour was wicked cool - I'm going to have to remember to show that one to my daughter K.
The joke and the sheep ticked my funny bone.

A few years ago, I saw an animated short of Oedipus Rex where all of the "cast" were vegitables. They had cauliflower sheep too. Oedipus was a baking potato. Perhaps you had to be there. Anyway, this post - very cute, and funny.

I am a fellow joke killer - my husband has banned me from trying. Thanks for making me laugh out loud today. It's been a trying morning and this was a much needed bright spot.

Cauliflower sheep are my favorite it! I wonder if Smith would mind eating cauliflower sheep. I'll put lots of cheese on them and we'll both be happy. ;-)

Giggled at the joke, marveled at the video and awwwwed at the sheep! Great finds, Norma!

I'm a terrible joke teller, too, which makes me even more appreciative of a good joke. Thanks for sharing that one!

With all the little sheepy pieces behind him, could he be the Killer Tomato?

Norma, since you posted the cauliflower sheep, you need to check out the "Bent Objects" site-it's awesome!

I just heard the tree-knitting story on All Things considered. Do they read your blog in search of news stories???

Norma, this is a day or so late, but I'm one of those who's been silently following you for months. I do it because I love your wit and your humor (they're not the same thing) and your smarts . . . and especially your openness. You have no idea how much I appreciate that. No, I don't always find (quite as) funny what you find funny (but usually, almost always, I do), but I love that you share it, whatever it is, with exuberance. You're one courageous babe, and you inspire me (near) daily. Cheers, hugs, and love to you!

It's Jane again, from just above. I read over my comment and realized how much more accurately it would read without the parentheses. Well, the first set should still apply, but . . . oh, bother. Make of it what you will.
Btw, apropos of nothing, Lucid absinthe isn't all that.

That was all definitely... interesting!
