It's Apple Crisp Weekend. Sandy lost her dear father-in-law Bob this week. His favorite dessert was apple crisp (it's one of mine, too), so many of us have made apple crisp this weekend in honor of Bob. It's like a warm, fragrant, sweet hug to our Sandy and her lovely family.
I made mine maple. (and subbed gluten-free flour for the regular flour)
Absolutely delicious!
------------------
I had a nice email yesterday from Lynn Davis of the OFA, expressing her excitement and gratitude for all the fund donations, the scarves coming in, and the sign-ups for working at the care packaging event on the 15th. Thanks to everyone for being involved! Our total stands at $1,940. And I'm not saying we WILL, but there's another landmark amount coming up that I can see there, and MAYBE we MIGHT award a prize for that special mark. You just never know.
And, well, that Paula -- she is an idea person. I'm lucky to be working with her on this fund drive, and you all are the beneficiaries of her great work. I must say, in addition to it being a whole lot less stressful than doing it on my own, it's a lot more fun to work with someone else, too.
Thanks to her ability to manage a spreadsheet, her tireless efforts, and her creative ideas, we are offering a special lace-knitter's prize pack, winner to be announced Tuesday. (Stay tuned for a sock-knitter's pack and a spinner's pack, too!)
The lace pack will include:
Traditional Knitted Shawls by Martha Waterman,
Sundara Silk Lace weight Cherry Blossom 100gms / 1000yds,
Interlacements Rick Rack Limited Edition color 1100 yds. 100% rayon, hand-dyed laceweight yarn,
$10 Gift Certificate to Anne Hanson's online shopIn no time, you could be knitting something like this:
(Photo used with permission of Anne Hanson of Knitspot.)
You should get your donations in and email us at [email protected] with the amounts (one "ticket" for the prize for every $5 donated.) by 9 pm Eastern time Monday, so we can make the drawing that night. I'll announce the winner in the blog here Tuesday morning.
----------And we have some more prizes to tell you about, too.
Marilla, of Moonlight and Laughter, has donated the following scrumptious prizes:
The red, gold, brown and orange sock yarn is soft and smooshy and the colorway is called Fire on
the Mountain; the teal, eggplant, sand and gold sock yarn is called
Twilight. And there's also 4 ounces of
Bluefaced Leicester spinning fiber. It's called Walk at Midnight and is shades of
blue and greens.
Marilla says she has two kids in college and can't imagine what it would be like for them if they didn't have her and their home. Amen!
---------
I hinted at this one before, and now I'm finally getting around to blogging it: Claudia has donated her signature orange Trekking sock yarn (yum! My favorite color and my favorite sock yarn!)
AND this cormo roving:
Have you ever felt cormo? Sooooo sofffffft.
I want to give another enthusiastic thank you to all the prize donors, who have made it possible for us to offer such wonderful, fun prizes. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! *APPLAUSE*
You made me cry. I made apple crisp too. I can't think of a more fitting tribute to Bob than apple crisps around blogland being enjoyed thoroughly!
The prizes are wonderful! That Paula is a wonder. Wonder Paula. And she'd better not try to deny it.

I didn't make apple crisp but I did make a cherry pie and I thought of Bob. Hope that counts in some small way.
I'm making my donation now - want that cormo!!!

We just finished the last of the apple crisp for breakfast (I make it with oatmeal) after a trip to the orchard yesterday.

Mmmm ... apple crisp....
And, okay, I donated!

OK, it's the apple crisp that put me over the edge. Or maybe it was the plethora of orange prizes.
So let's just say that I wanted to send a check instead of using PayPal. I'd like OFA to know that the check is part of your fundraising endeavor - would putting Red Scarf Fund on the check be enough do you suppose? Thanks.

Apple crisp! Apple crisp! Oh, how I love it.

I live in a apple-growing area (the town across the river was duking it out with somewhere in Washington for Apple Capitol of the US, but I think they lost and had to settle for Apple Capitol of Minnesota, maybe. They do host Applefest every September though. Yes, I live in Wisconsin but on the banks of the Mississippi and can see Minnesota). So it might be time to go to the local big orchard stand and get pumpkins and apples, because I had planned to make apple crisp too but don't have the wherewithal. It's a rainy, cold day. It will be most welcome, and in celebration of an obviously beloved man.
I will go donate again because I need to see you post tomorrow that the Fund is well past the next milestone mark.

Fabulous goodies!
How do you do your maple apple crisp? How much maple? Cause I've got everything I need to make it. Just not the recipe.
Oh, and I made an apple crisp yesterday. I think I'll finish it for lunch today. :D

Mmmm, maple apple crisp. I happen to just have some Grade B maple syrup :^) oh and apples and oats also.
Lovely goodies. Walk at Midnight is beautiful and the cormo? why, no, I have not had the opportunity to feel it but it's going at the top of my list now.
Yep, I've always liked that Paula :^)

I was going to make apple crisp today, but maple is something I hadn't thought of. Hmmm.
I finished knitting my red(ish) scarf, just have to block it, get a gift card, and mail it off!

Apple crisp at my house, too. Oatmeal variation.
Wow! Those are really fantastic donations.

I actually had apple crisp last week too -- special to the cafeteria as part of 'eat local' day. SO delicious. (we need more 'eat local' days!) I think it convinced me that fall is a good thing.
I think Marilla's comment will convince me to donate. I'm in college right now and I can't imagine not having my mom a home to go back to. I read something last year from a father saying "a family is a privilege" -- wow! That nearly knocked me over. Having a loving family should be a right. For everyone. Aww, now I'm going to be a little bit homesick.
Off to donate.

mm crisp...a great way to be remembered (and gluten-free!)
put my check in the mail today too, as I promised ... delay was due to me not leaving the house yesterday.
