Holy cow. Black raspberries from my yard. And I've got the scratches to prove it.
It's only a few, but it's only the first day, and there are thousands more to come. Make no mistake: These are not blackberries, and don't taste anything like blackberries. They don't taste or feel in the mouth anything like red raspberries, either. They are tart and sweet and have a flavor all their own. Is an atheist allowed to speculate about Heaven? If so, this is one of the things I imagine Heaven might be.
That's the black part of the program. Now about the blue:
I have eaten about four ripe blueberries from our bushes. There are many more to come.
I stopped in at Gardener's Supply on Saturday and found that fruit plants were 20% off. I got two new blueberry bushes (already loaded with fruit) and stuck them in the ground over the weekend. Then I looked out the window last night and saw a robin swooping down to peck off a blueberry. NO SHARING! So I ran out and braved the mosquitoes to put on the bird netting.
Life is good. It would be better if I'd made it to yoga yesterday, and didn't have to defrost the goddamn piece-of-crap refrigerator and cook lots of food so it wouldn't spoil in the 90-degree heat, but still. And now we have lots of good leftovers to eat all week. So yeah, life is good.
God I love berries! I'm having impure thoughts just looking at that bowl.

Look good enough to reach into the screen to sample! Eat a few for me. They look scrumptious!

Norma the busy gardener...the berries do look heavenly. I'd like mine with fresh cream, please.

Those berries are perfection...I could eat the whole bowl right now!
I am so envious of your green thumb Norma :)

Well, on this topic I have good news. Despite the grape-black-rot-tragedy, I anticipate that we, too, will soon have blackberries to enjoy in the newly acquired garden. Your pic is a good reminder of the great things to come...

We used to have black raspberry bushes, but they got plowed under when we had to put in the new septic system. Priorities! I should go check our blueberries!

My 9 year old shared her dream with me the other day... she dreamt that she was surrounded by raspberry canes full of ripe berries. I asked her if that would be heaven for her. She said "oh yes, that would be heaven!" Unfortunately raspberries don't grow well in Kansas heat. She would love love love your black raspberries.
Keep growing!

I grew up on black raspberries...my mom's black raspberry jelly is heaven. Then later I moved out west and no one would accept that black raspberries were different than blackberries. I had to figure out scientific names to prove they were different species and I'm pretty sure most people still didn't believe me!

Norma... there's a thin line between 'cruel' and 'nicely sharing', must find some black raspberries...and gobble.

Damn greedy robins!

I am highly jealous of your gorgeous berries! I really want to put in some fruit bushes -- have been waiting until Maddie was older to avoid having to pull her away from the thorns. Maybe next year!

I'm thinking pie, but just eating them one by one from the bowl isn't such a bad idea either. Sigh! :-)

For those of us in Colorado--that's just pornographic!

Your Black Raspberries look super yummy. :D
Have you tried them with Greek yogurt and granola or are you going to eat them by themselves?

YUM. *must not imitate robins*

And the "other" blue? Isn't that a Depression Glass bowl? How pretty it is!
And I LOVE berries, too!
(((hugs)))

Glory. It's great to go out and pick fruit for breakfast (and lunch and elevenses and supper and afternoon tea...). And it doesn't hurt that those are some mighty fine looking berries!
If you have extras, I would use them in iced tea.

The birds planted some in my yard last year and while I enjoyed the berries very much, my arms got attacked in ways that have never happened before.
