I realized I have to rename what I referred to as Sandy II in my yesterday post. It's really Sandy IV.
1. Spindle-spun under the influence of quite a bit of wine by Laura and me in the room at Rhinebeck;
2. Skein 1 on my wheel;
3. Skein 2 on my wheel; and
4. Skein 3 on my wheel.
Sandy I, Sandy II, Sandy III, Sandy IV, The Generations. As you can see, the whole genetics thing is working quite nicely and things are improving with each generation.
And then I went in the closet and, for sentimental reasons, I dug out the very first roving I ever bought. I bought it on eBay before I knew anything about anything fiber-related, except that I had signed up for the thrum-along and knew I needed some "fleece," is how I termed it. Long-time readers of my blog may recognize this fuchsia roving as the stuff I used in my first thrummed mittens (when I didn't yet know how to properly knit in the thrums) and the Tutti-Fruity Mittens for Dulaan (I'd finally got the hang of thrums by that point). (Carole, please note the NON-PINK color of those mittens. It is Cascade 220 dyed in orange Kool-Aid.)
The roving went into Lauren's thrummed mittens, too. I also tried to spin it on my larger Golding spindle just after Rhinebeck 2004 (It was unusable crap, and I know there's a picture of it somewhere in my archives, but I can't find it). I sent it to Lauren and I presume she threw it away, which would have been a wise move.
And now it's the one in the middle:
L to R, for comparison purposes:
1. Koigu.
2. My handspun Corriedale.
3. Jamieson & Smith Shetland 2-ply.
P.S. I like spinning.
P.P.S. That is an understatement.
Wow, how cool are those? I'm liking generation III & IV. And your handspun Corriedale has a pretty damned good plying to iy. Good twist. I'm starting to really envy your spinningness. (Hey, it's barely 6:30 Am on a Sunday. Grammar does not count.)
More photos. More photos.

I'm way impressed with the comparison of generations and commercial yarn! That is a very long way in a VERY short time. How well I remember the uneasy relationship with a wheel in the corner. Heh. Hey, grrl, 8 pounds may be too much for me. Maybe we can make a deal!

You're doing a great job! I am in the midst of a Lorna's Laces roving myself, which I may just have to get out and finish today. It is a nice overcast day for which to stay indoors and spin while doing laundry!

Holy CRAP Norma! That fourth generation stuff is gorgeous (and the previous aren't so shappy either!) How talented are YOU! The progress is amazing. So you're going to come down here and give me spinning lessons when I get the wheel for my birthday, right? RIGHT?
I've got to say I am really really impressed. GO YOU!

Sandy is so pretty!
I'm not even thinking about doing any spinning. (covers ears and sings 'lalalalala') I'm not.

You're a spinning goddess and an inspiration to those of us who still haven't progressed beyond embarrassingly uneven singles yet comfort ourselves with halfhearted comparisons to Point Five and Manos.

The corriedale is gorgeously spun...you're doing so well! I am not going to say I told you so, but....
:-)

The spinning looks awesome and I LOVE the non-pink Kool Aid mittens. hee.
I'm having great luck spinning coopworth and romney but every time I try to spin the corriedale it just falls apart. Any suggesions?

From the looks of those skeins, I'd say spinning likes you, too. Good job!

Braggart! Truly it looks marvelous! By golly you've got it in spades.

You're doing so good! I'm so jealous.

I can't wait until it's cold enough for those fuschia thrums! And I need to make that matching hat with your precious bit of handspun.

Hey! I am in total awe and envy of your progress. You da bomb!
I haven't sent you the roving I have yet, should I drop it in the mail tomorrow? I can't remember what we decided about that. Let me know.
