Wow. You so kick Martha's ass 'round the block!

    inglesidebelle

Another Wow! The suitcases/mirror/lamp vignette is stunning - it looks like those that the decorating magazines feature!

    molly

Great facelift! I have that very same poster hanging in my room right now, given to me by my mom!

    Jean E.

Great colors. You can't go wrong with orange!

    sandy

You have great decorating sense. I love what you've done!
I am a FIRM believer of houseguests/a party when the house starts looking a bit shabby! :D

That is such a talent that I don't have. I think you could start hiring yourself out or even get your own HGTV show.

    gayle

Love all your colors and arrangements!
I don't seem to have the decorating gene... My style is an amalgam of Early Clutter and Half-Assed Functionality. I've found a good layer of dust really ties the room together.

    Kym

Great sense of style -- and obvious flair! But what did you do with the detritus? (I never know quite what to DO with the stuff they leave behind. . .)

    margene

You transformed that room into something from house beautiful without much effort or expense! It's fabulous!

    Barbara M.

Wow! When I move into my new house, can I hire you as a decorator? I told the builder the house "Needs to have beautiful bones, because I am not going to decorate it." But I think you would do a great job.

    Seriously, Norma.... it looks fabulous.

    Jakkimitch

I'm impressed. The room looks great!

    Konna

Oh, I like what you have done with the jewelry boxes and "vintage" mirror/lamp/suitcases! Nice work! When can I move in???

    Vicki

Go you. I need a nudge!

    Cheryl S.

Oh! Oh! I had one of those jewelry boxes many years ago. Like the middle one - sort of ivory-colored.

Love the idea of the picture frame surrounding the photo.

    Joannah

Mr J -- you look great in your new room! The colors provide a terrific back drop for your fabulousness!

    Diane H.

Nice job, Norma! Love the colors you chose and the photo of Abigail. It looks very inviting and cozy for Gale. Now I know what to do with my old jewelry box!!

A similar transformation of "dust covered crap" to designer elements happened here before the holidays. New duvet cover, new curtains & hardware and a week of moving furniture in and crap out of the room and Voila - cozy first floor suite for mom!

    Seanna Lea

Heh. Your decorating is so much better than mine. I'm still debating the merit of curtains, which given I was in our old condo for about 5 years without them doesn't bode well for the house.

I just don't think there are enough hours in the day to walk Victor, cook and clean, knit and decorate. Something will have to give. Probably that cleaning thing.

    Elaine

Great job! LOVE the frame/matted print trick.

    Doris

Awesome makeover Norma. I need to do the same in my bedroom and also want to do it on a shoestring budget. I might have a look around the attic and basement when it snows tomorrow...another 10-20 inches is expected on top of our 33.75 inches. Maybe in the attic and basement I won't even realize it is snowing and then I won't try to think about where on earth we are going to put the darned stuff. I can hardly reach the top of the piles of snow that we currently made. And did I mention that we live in an old rowhouse comunity in Baltimore? Not a lot of room for more snow.

    Cookie

Wonderful re-do! That is exactly why we need to keep all that oddball stuff we all have sitting around. It makes spur of the moment redesign so much easier and cheaper.

Mr. J makes the room, of course. ;^)

Whoa look out Martha look out oh I can't remember his name, that guy that looks a little like Franklin that had that show, you know the one? I saw on Craftzine blog how somebody drew on cardboard with a marker and cut it out so the wall looked like a headboard, and they did similar for the bedtable. You have that beat hands down.

    Ann

Well, so now you are an interior decorator! Very nice-warm and inviting!
Great Job. Love the way it all came together!

    marianne

LOVE what you did with the room and did a little happy dance that you kept the wall colour :^) Such a clever woman with a very keen eye for detail you are!
