Let's hear big congratulations to the following winners generated by random.org, in my Black Friday prize drawing in the Red Scarf Fundraising Drive.
1. Donna wins a $10 gift certificate from Knitspot (lucky Donna -- this is the second time she has won)
2. Susan! In a what-goes-around-comes-around lovely karmic event, Susan wins the copy of the First Book of Modern Lace Knitting donated by Michele D.
3. Angie wins a $25 gift certificate from Little Barn, Inc. donated by Susan R.
4. K.T. wins the white bronze poetry buttons donated by Blazing Needles,
and
5. Cathy B. wins the package of 4 Chic Knits printed patterns donated by Bonne Marie.
Congratulations everyone and thank you to the donors. I hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday and are spending today exactly as you wish. I'll be making celery soup (I had lots of celery trimmings from Thanksgiving dinner preparations), studying, and knitting on my red scarf. It stands at 34.5 inches now -- better than half way -- and I've already ripped out the fugly scarf to reclaim the yarn to finish this one, washed it and let it dry, so it's all set to go when I reach the end of the present ball of yarn, which will be soon.
I didn't knit as much as I'd hoped to yesterday, as I was felled by a killer headache and allergic reaction. My sister-in-law, sisters, Abigail and I were dropping like flies -- my sister-in-law went to bed with a migraine, and the rest of us got headaches one by one. I was lying down on the floor with an ice pack on my head and most everyone was asking for Advil except me (I'm allergic to it). Eventually we discovered it was because my mother had plugged in one of those Glade air fresheners -- accckkk! My poor mom - she didn't realize she was plugging in the Air Freshener Of Death. Once we discovered what was causing the problem, unplugged the culprit, and threw it down the cellar stairs put it away, we all got better. But the scarf got lots of oohs and ahhs from my family members. They loved the color and the seed stitch. I do, too. It's flying along, really. I do not agree with those who say that seed stitch is tedious and slow. It's just the opposite for me -- it has a wonderful rhythm, it's easy to knit on while watching TV, it lies flat and seems to grow faster than many other stitches, perhaps because of the flatness of the fabric it creates? I'm not sure, but I know that I'm going to buy more of this incredible red yarn and make my long-wished-for seed stitch jacket, someday soon.
Sorry to hear about all of the headaches, but at least you discovered the problem.
Congrats to all the winners!

I get that same headache from Lemon Fresh Joy (and a few other artificial-lemon-scented products) and Hubba-Bubba Watermelon Gum. (Have they discontinued that gum? (I hope!) I haven't seen it for a while. And I didn't even have to be the one chewing it - if it was in the same room with me, I'd get the mother of all headaches.) I wouldn't even dare try one of those plug-in things!
Congratulations to the winners!

Read the prize list twice to make sure I hadn't missed my name... I'm not a fan of seed stitch but your scarf looks wonderful. I love the texture!

Thank you, Susan R.! Celery soup sounds delicious but I've never had it. Maybe you could give your recipe or link to a recipe in a future post? Your scarf looks lovely.

I didn't really think about the rhythm of seed stitch and its flatness as a reason for good scarf growth. The last seed stitch scarf I made was with a bulkier yarn, so I figured it was the yarn thickness alone responsible for finishing a scarf over a weekend. Hrm. I might have to rethink this.
Oh, do you think Cascade 220 would be fine for another red scarf? It's not superwash, which is why I've been holding off.

Celery soup sounds like a great day-after-Thanksgiving idea. You do a really good job of solvingmy "What's for dinner?" dilemma. That seed stitch looks great in red. Nice.

I love seed stitch...fortunately, the way I knit makes it painless to do! Good looking scarf.
Have you awarded those SigNits yet? If so, let me know where to send them.

Interesting about the headaches. A lot of scents trigger my migraines and, consequently, we have a "no perfume" policy in my office. Although he plays along, my boss thinks the fragrance thing is all in my head (no pun intended). I'll have to mention this to him.

Glad you found out the reason for those headaches!! And that it was something as easily fixed as that.
The scarf looks terrific!
(((hugs)))

Mmmm. The red seed stitch is Stunning!
Damn. Those pesky air freshener things, I'm surprised MORE people aren't reacting to them. I can't have them in the house, nor a lot of other products with 'scent'. Glad you're feeling better.
Huge congrats to the Winners today and again enormous thank yous to the Fine Folks donating.
Celery soup, sounds really good to me!

Sorry to hear I have so much company in my olfactory triggered headache/migraine group. I think it is tougher than having food triggers because for the most part you can control what you eat, but you really can't control how the world and people around you smell.
