On Thursday night I was all over Facebook saying, "Alert the Media! I'm knitting!" (or I was about to). And then Judith R. commented that she had just said that somewhere in Ravelry. Great minds and all that. (To new readers, this is significant because it's been so.damn.long.since.I.have.knitted.anything. Kind of silly, this being a so-called knitting blog and all that.)
As it turns out, I think I knitted ten whole rows on my tomato red scarf when Grey's Anatomy first came on, but Mr. Jefferies was having none of that and kept doing things to interrupt during the entire two-hour show. So the knitting activity was definitely not front-page news. But at least it was something.
Last night I thought how much fun it would be to start a Ravelry group with that name. (Alert the Media!) I searched, and could not find a group along the same lines that already exists. If I'm wrong, someone should probably let me know.
Look at me, once a charter member of the Ravelry Underachievers group, all grown up and going to start my own group!
Not so fast.
I started to do it, but I got whelmed by the banner-creating phase. The group's idea would be a place for those of us who have inadvertently or unavoidably taken a hiatus from knitting. Alert the Media! would be our celebratory cry when we take up the needles again, even if only for ten (or two) rows of a scarf. All I need is a banner/button design. Anyone wanna help? If we get several entries, perhaps we can have a vote and contest. And in the meantime, go on in and join the group.
I've recently been wondering what it means that I spend more time on Ravelry on Remnants than anywhere else...

Hmm, now in theory I love this idea... but if I start logging into Ravelry to announce I'm knitting... will I then end up spending thirty minutes trawling through my groups not knitting?
Studies should be done, has Ravelry meant a decrease in knitting time?

I'm off to sign up.

I just started knitting again, myself - I have a hat I've been working on the last couple of nights that's well into the crown decreases. Seems like forever since I've been able to produce anything.
The only way I can combine Ravelry with knitting is if I learn to work the mouse with my toes...

Well, I feel left out (pout, pout) as I'm still knitting more often than not. I have 2 of the 3 Christmas card sweaters done for the kids. Wonderful Wallaby's this year. I think they must be OK: Our 21 year old summer sitter said, "Wow! I would even wear one of those!"

Shoot. Can't join cuz I've been knitting all along. Maybe I'll be a rebel and join anyway! I'm sure to have a falling out with knitting at some time or the other....

Love that red! :-)

That is hilarious. My group would have to be more like "Alert the Media, Holly has stopped knitting!"

I am so there. I joined Ravelry ages ago and have done nothing with it b/c guess what? I never have time to knit. Any time I pick up the needles it is definitely a media-worthy event.
I wonder if I can remember my Ravelry password?

It must be something in the air (fall, perhaps?) because I've knit more in the last two days that I did all summer. That sweater I started last March might actually get done in time to wear it this winter.
I'll be joining. But I can't help you with the banner/button thing. Those tasks are the ones I pass on to my husband, and I don't think he'd even understand my request if I said: "You see, there's this blogger, and she wants to start a group on Ravelry...." I can see his eyes glazing over real fast.

I could go over there to join to say that I've been back to the wheel today, but then I would be stuck over there and not get anything else done. Some days I am easily distracted. Also, the scarf is looking great!

You're back on Facebook? I thought you escaped from there the day you set up your wall. Great idea having a contest!

I think I need a group that's called "I knit therefore I frog". I have a disease, I know it. I start knitting but since I am a haphazard swatcher I end up not liking what I'm doing and frog. I did, however, get the back done on a shrug I like, but I started the front and got bogged down in adding increases to a lacy pattern and put it aside. Then I started a scarf that has a reversable pattern but keep getting the cables fouled up. I don't do cables because I'm not that fond of them so that's been a froggy nightmare. You would never know that I am actually a very good knitter (even if I do say so myself) and have knit for over 40 yrs. I feel like a novice. *sigh* And now my daughter wants me to teach her how to knit...

I can't join that group, Norma. I haven't stopped knitting! But I'll cheer ya'll on!
(((hugs)))

I'd love it. My knitting has suffered so much over the last 6 months that I have actually lost the project that working on last. Drag!

Ouish! I've stopped knitting too! But not without doing a million other things. But, we'll get back to it.
Even here in NC, there's a chill to the air, it's dark at 6:30 AM and the leaves are changing color.
It's fall, alright... and time to knit!
