I don't have a costume, although I'm looking for a checkered apron. *cough* But let's pretend I'm knocking on your door and yelling, "Trick or TREEEEEEEAAAAAT!"
And here's what I'm hoping to get in my bag:
A ball or two of white (ivory, or vanilla, I guess it is) Berroco Furz.
Believe it.
It's discontinued, and I've done an exhaustive internet search and can't come up with any. Last summer/fall I made the Snow Queen Set (hat, mittens & scarf viewable in my 2004 & 2005 Galleries for those curious) for Abigail. This weekend she requested that I make her another hat JUST LIKE the Snow Queen hat. Hers is getting a bit worn out. She lives in it and loves it. She also says she is known around campus by the hat, and she thinks that is the coolest thing ever.
(Do you know Abigail?
I don't think so.
She's the girl with the white sparkly hat.
Oh! Yes! I know who she is!)
Like that. She says, "It's my signature."
All the girls want one. She wants me to change the design ever so slightly so it's a bit more flat on top, but otherwise she wants it EXACTLY like the first one. She says, "I'll use the old one for when I'm coming back from the gym all sweaty." Apparently she REALLY likes the hat.
What's a mother to do? There's a part of me that would like to substitute a beautiful angora yarn -- however, I am slightly allergic to angora and I fear she is, too. She's had some new allergies crop up this year, and I don't want to add any insult to injury. The Furz is really lovely to work with, when used as a carry-along yarn, as I did in that set, and it gives a really nice look that lasts. It's incredibly soft, too. When it was discontinued, Jill at Kaleidoscope alerted me, knowing that I had used it and was happy with it. Never in a million years thinking that Abbs would want the same hat in the same color ever again, I bought three OTHER colors, but no white. I offered Ab a black hat. I told her I have all the makings for the same hat, but in black, and she said, "that's too close to my hair color. I really want white." Girl knows what she likes and wants what she wants. Wonder where she gets that from?
I explain to her that that yarn has been discontinued and I don't know if I can find some more. The conversation continues, like so:
"So, should I do a full-out search for the white?"
"Yes."
The end.
So if anyone has any white/ivory/vanilla Berroco Furz languishing in your stash, I'd like to take it off your hands. We could possibly arrange a trade or I'd buy it from you. Or if you happen to be in your LYS and see a ball of white, I would be sooooo appreciative if you'd keep me in mind. Don't worry about me ending up with too many, because I'll take what I can get. This is a lovely yarn for little girls' gifty items, too, and I can see myself making something for my niece with it.
Why do they always discontinue the good stuff and keep so much crap?
UPDATED: Wow, I can't believe it! It's only 7:26 a.m., and I already have so many leads! I ordered 5 balls from Isela's LYS in UT and then found out they're not open Mondays. But it seems like it will all work out. If not, I will follow up on some of the other leads. I knew I'd get some action through this community. What a phenomenon!
Will check the LYS, they carry tons of Berroco yarns.

You're a sweet mum to go searching...
My e-mails to you are bouncing again. :-( The AOL server is sending back failure messages...

Believe it or not, I saw Furz at Webs the other day. :) Let me know if you want me to try and pick some up for you. They had lots of BAGS of it.

Isn't that the way of it?? Pushed to the limit, poor Mom.

If you don't watch out, you may wind up with a checkered apron. And then be obligated to wear it.

What a good Mum you are. That hat does look great, so I can understand why Abigail would want another one.

Hey, Norma. Just to let you know, when I loaded in the site this morning, you had no wallpaper and pretty much no formatting. Looked pretty bare bones...but the comments page looks normal. You may not have cried wolf after all.

Sounds like you're all set with the furz. Isn't blogging just great? Happy Halloween, Miz Norma!

You realize you should probably buy a whole bag of this stuff for the next time she asks for a replacement, Cousin. It may be easy to find it now, but in a year? Maybe not so much.

Oh good! The benefit of getting to the blog a bit later in the day is that there's already a happy ending! I was going to suggest she learn to love the red, but looks like she'll get the white she wants.

I just gave away two balls, but navy, to the local senior housing complex for the ladies to use. Day late, and all that. Any messages you'd like me to bring to the Utah Grrls? I expect to meet up with Margene and Susan, maybe Anne, on Thursday!

Apparently the knitbloggers are taking a break from spoiling their own children to help you spoil yours! It would be bad practice to ever turn down a child's request for a handknit.......mustn't let that happen. xox Kay

So glad you found it! I would be so sad if you hadn't!

Hi
I have a partial sweater finished and need furz, vanilla 3801, do you have any more leads? I periodically look for this, then after a while stop looking...I wish they would make more.
thanks.
